Five Years Ago...Today
Five years ago, on this very day, a business called Gesine Confectionary was born in a house on Terrace Street in Montpelier, Vermont. A large order for French Almond Macarons came through the transom. I said yes. I don't know what the hell I was thinking.
But sometimes it takes a kick in the keester to start a new life, in this case a professional baking life. I scrapped my intended stint at culinary school, opting instead to home school. An idiot, you say? Yes. I'm an idiot. But I wouldn't have changed a thing. I'm a better and, I dare say, a more original baker for having taken the path of the lone, flour-dusted wolf. So to all you baking dreamers out there, this is what the beginning looks like. The wine is optional but highly recommended.
